I took the high road
Poised beautifully beside the most romantic loch in Scotland, the Inn on Loch Lomond offers much more than a warm welcome. Complete with unrivalled views over the loch, the Inn is tucked in amongst the roaring hills of Glen Douglas.
The Inn on Loch Lomond is the sister hotel to the Lodge on Loch Lomond. We enjoyed our first trip to the lodge last year and loved it. Going by the price point for accommodation at the Inn, we weren’t sure what to expect. Rates are very reasonable. This was the first time we had taken Snoop dog with us on one of our longer aye-ventures. Callie, as she is otherwise known, was made very welcome at the Inn. Considering how great the surrounding area is for walks, I was delighted when I found out that I could take Callie.
The Room
The hotel fits well into the landscape. But it gives nothing away about the pretty interior. Our room was located on the first floor, up an old-fashioned twirly staircase, decorated with a variety of stag antlers. From the outset, the Inn was immaculate. Awards scatter the reception area which reiterates this.
Our room, no.114, was large, spotless and stylish. The design followed the typical tartan theme throughout the hotel but the bathroom was ultra-modern, with a heated tiled floor. Heated floor? Pre-Spring in Scotland?! Aye. The addition of French-door-style windows in the room was also perfect for enjoying the mountainous view.
Callie took a few minutes to understand that the Inn was not, in fact, her new house and did puff every time a new car pulled into the car park. But she soon got used to it and with free sausages from staff and a bone larger than most small children, she was in her element.
Once we had all settled in, we enjoyed a cup of tea and a Borders Viennese Biscuit on the super comfy bed and for the first time in a very busy while, I felt content.
Dining at The Inn on Loch Lomond
The food at the Inn was fabulous. We both fell over ourselves for the Shetland Mussels in white wine, parsley, cream and leek sauce. Drooled a little on my chin. Not Sorry. Check out our review of Mr C’s Whisky Bar and Restaurant.
For breakfast, we both enjoyed a full Scottish cooked breakfast alongside the odd nibble from the continental buffet. Callie got stuck into extra bits of bacon of our plates and then her own pile of sausages.
She smiled more than was necessary during our stay so I’m assuming if she reviewed the Inn, she would have said “bark woof yum food yum bed loch wet sleep food.”
The Location
The Inn on Loch Lomond is a complete Scottish getaway. The hotel is in Inverbeg, 3 miles from Luss, on the Western shore of the loch. This area is all about the scenery. If you’re an avid climber or enjoy peaceful walks by the water, this is the perfect place for you. I can also see Loch Lomond being great (albeit a bit cold) for wild swimming. Not something I’ve really tried yet but definitely on the to-do list for the warmer weather. The Inn is a fantastic place to escape from everything.
